July 22-August 23
The annual Open-Air Cinema Festival takes place Wed-Sun nights at the Parc de la Villette's Triangle Prairie (M° Porte de Pantin), starting at sunset (around 10pm), free entry (deck chair rentals from 7:30pm). This year's haunting and spooky and horrific theme is "Home Cinema" (all films can be downloaded to watch at home from the website), including: Last Days, Beetlejuice, shutter Island, The Shining, Moulin Rouge, the Ghost Writer, and many French and international films (all in VO with French subtitles). 

Through August 23
The 30th annual Fête des Tuileries funfair with carnival rides at Tuileries Gardens starts today, free entry, rides with individual tickets. Plenty of food stands, too!

August 25
Sex & Booze: An Erotic Book Club at The Chamber, a private pop-up cocktail club, where Heather will be moderating a discussion about another controversial work of 18th-century French erotic literature, The Anti-Justine, by Nicolas-Edme Rétif. Special discount on Naughty Paris Guides for Chamber members. From 8pm, nibbles and fabulous cocktails to accompany the cock tales! Today over 300 people and 2000 cupcakes gathered at Le Comptoir Général  near the Canal St Martin for Cupcake Camp Paris 2012, to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Check out the pretty (yummy) cupcakes here!

Are the French Less Charitable than Americans? 

If you look at the stats, it seems Americans are far more generous than the French. According to the 2010 World Giving Index, France ranked 91 in charitable giving out of 153 countries surveyed, far behind the #5-ranked USA (Australia and New Zealand tied for first).

November 7 Benefit Concert & Art Auction

A big merci to everyone who came to the charity event last night. This year we raised a total of $4100 for non-profits that give solar lights to families in Kenya and Tanzania that do not have electricity. This really transforms lives!
