Calendar of Paris Events

June 2-3
This weekend is the Portes Ouvertes at Les Frigos! Check out the artist studios in one of the most famous former squats in Paris. In the 13th (near the Bibliothèque Mitterrand, just off Rue de Tolbiac), ree entry, Saturday (2-10pm) and Sunday (2-8pm).

June 8-10
Nearly 6,000 feathered and sequinned costumes, designed and made in the workshops of the Folies Bergère, one of the world’s most prestigious music-halls, are going on auction at the Palais de la Bourse (Place de la Bourse, 2nd) over three sessions (two catalogued sales on Saturday 9th at 6pm and Sunday 10th at 4pm, one non-catalogued sale of costumes, accessories, notions and supplies). To this magnificent set of lots will be added a hundred posters and programmes recounting a century of revues, original musical scores composed for Folies Bergère revues and drawings by famous fashion illustrator Erté. Public exhibition of the collection from 2-6pm on Friday, 10am-5pm on Saturday, 10am-3pm on Sunday.

June 17
It's time yet again to don your most fashionable hat and a picnic basket and head up to Chantilly for the annual Prix de Diane at the Chantilly Hippodrome. It's Ladies' Day at the races, and the fashions might overshadown the horses, but overall it's a fabulous day out for free (well, if you can get out there by train or car or helicopter). Check out one of my posts from the 2010 event with photos.

Fish, La Boissonerie

Fish, La Boissonerie
69 Rue de Seine, 6th.
Tel 01 43 54 34 69

This is another address that has made it into all of the guides, both French and foreign. It's not specifically a fish restaurant, it's just located in a former poissonerie (or fish monger's) and retains its original mosaic tiled exterior. But they do a lot of great fish dishes, light and fresh with lots of veggies. The fact that the co-owners are from New Zealand and the US might explain the healthy-conscious menu and the casual-friendly atmosphere, but this isn't a tourist-only venue. The duo also own a wine boutique around the corner (La Dernière Goutte), so expect some great vintages on the wine list. It's best to reserve, as there aren't many tables.

Fantastic restaurant - very laid back, great owners, great food, and not too expensive. We spend New Year's eve there, and have been other times... well recommended

I have been to this restaurant on several visits to Paris and it is excellent. Great food, no attitude, good service.

Have been here several times and it is consistently good. A little more Sydney style food than Paris - which makes a nice change. They know how to make the best of the limited menu, and their wine list is excellent, but also have wines of the month which are worth a try.

I love this place. We kept walking past and everyone looked like they were having a good time, but we couldn't get a table. Finally booked in and it was excellent. fun, friendly, service. Good fresh and interesting food. The bread and wine are amazing too. My favourite restaurant in Paris. Much better than some much more expensive ones in the neighbourhood. I have introduced some French friends to it and they love in too.
