Cows, chickens, piggies and food, food, food at the annual Salon International de l'Agriculture, at the Paris Porte de Versailles conference center, 9am-7pm (March 2nd until 11pm). Entry €12. Mark your calendars for the next SOS Help Spring Book Sale, today from 12 pm to 4 pm at Orrick Law Offices (31, avenue Pierre 1er de Serbie, 16th). This is a popular restaurant with the American crowds, so expect to hear some loud English. In any case you shouldn’t come here for a quiet, romantic dinner, since it’s a boisterous, crowded restaurant on two floors, with everyone crammed close together so you get to know your neighbors. If things get too serene the waiters might knock over a few glasses or drop your dishes to liven things up (although our waiter tried to convince us that it wasn’t part of the evening entertainment). Vegetarians will cringe – it’s a meat-eater’s heaven, with lots of country patés and terrines, foie gras, mussels, and herrings, and country specialties like rabbit, deer, duck, veal…okay there are some fish on the menu, too.

At lunch you can get a €21.50 menu or order à la carte; at dinner you order exclusively by the menu, four courses for €29.50. You’ll get a gigantic cheese platter with some familiar and some scary green wedges (I know some of you love this). Desserts are, like all of the dishes, huge. They’re open daily for lunch and dinner, and it’s recommended you reserve a table in advance. Although the first time I went we were a group of five and a large dog, and managed to get a table right away. Try your luck!
