I update the Hotels section of this guide each year, and I know most of the other authors who write for this guide. Always up-to-date!
Heather's Recommended Paris Guides
Here is a short list of the guidebooks that are on my shelf. Some are written by moi, some written by trusted collegues, and some are just well-written and I have no idea who the authors are!

I updated the latest version of the Michelin Green Guide, known for their detailed info on churches, museums, and historical contexts. Great maps!
-
I haven't written for Time Out since the 13th edition, but I always like their arts, dining, nightlife, and sports sections. Always written by savvy locals.

This was my very first full-length guidebook, written from scratch. It's HUGE! I mean that. Makes a great doorstop. The perfect guide to read while preparing for your trip to Paris. Horrible maps. Great information (IMHO) of Parisian neighborhoods, as well as info on neighboring villages outside Paris and lots of outdoor activities. The prices are out of date by now, and some places have closed, so this is best for sightseeing information.

I wrote the Paris travel section of this popular guide. Has the Da Vinci Code madness tapered off yet? Heck non!
-
This publisher makes great maps. Even after living in Paris for more than a decade, I find I still need good maps!
-
This is what I actually carry around in my purse every day. Better than any silly accordion map!
-
I remember the first time I saw this guidebook I immediately wished I had written it. Gary is a great guidebook writer and knows Paris inside and out! Hats off to him for publishing this himself, too!
-
DK Guides are great for the images. I love to carry them around with me on tours of the city, even if they are a tad heavy!
-
If you've ever watched Rick Steves' travel show on PBS, you'll know if you're a fan of his down-to-earth travel style or not. I would recommend his guides to anyone who is coming to France for the first time and a bit nervous about international travel in general. Wondering whether you can drink the water? Get this guide.

A lot of people ask me about traveling to Paris with kids. I have no idea, so I'm going to recommend you try this guide. It's such a child-friendly town if you know where to go!
-
This is the ultra-cool Paris guide for urban hipsters. Sensible shoes? Bah!
-
Loooove the Taschen guides with their plastified covers, thick latte paper, gorgeous photos and general swankiness. I would never feel like a dork carrying this guide around. This one specializes in shopping.
-
This is such a stylish little guide, really just a plastified accordion that fits into your purse. The info is condensed into the minimal amount of space, with hotels, shops, dining and even nightlife -- all for those arriving with the Black Amex, of course.

Rachel Kaplan is a spitfire, and she knows Paris! This guide is perfect for those of you hoping to make the most of that Paris Museum Pass.
